As long as you like

‘As long as you like’ is a collaboration between British and Norwegian product designers Thomas Jenkins, Sverre Uhnger. The essence of the design project ‘As long as you like’ was to create a series of handmade tables that are quite simply, as long as you like.

As part of this collaboration series, Lundhs Blue Real Stone was selected to accompany their vision. Lundhs Blue is a material renowned for the subtle combination of delicate blue and grey tones complemented by hints of radiant crystals. The collaboration for ‘As long as you like’ sees Lundhs stone paired with textured oak modular legs to create a stunning dining table.

The bespoke dining table collaboration creatively challenged the principle of the design project with the sheer weight and unique quality that comes with the natural stone Larvikite. The designers used all their prior experience and knowledge with the exquisite Larvikite stone to perfect the manufacture of the table that uses one vast and entirely intact piece of stone.

It was a challenge to work with a 250 kgs stone slate - but it was fun!

The result is impressive, with the finished dining table using the longest length possible of extracted stone (an incredible 3.5 metres) to create the ultimate ‘as long as you like’ table using beautiful, natural materials. The Lundhs ‘As long as you like’ tailor-made table can seat up to 14 family and friends with ease. At 250 kilos, it may not be one to move around the home but is an inspired design collaboration that merits a permanent place in the kitchen as a functional design statement that combines practicality with beauty.

The prototype of “As long as you like” was launched in 2015 at the Milan Design fair. The table was constructed from solid oak and Larvikite, a stone unique to norway from the Lundhs’ quarry in Larvik.
