A Modular Approach to Making
The design process began with a brief to create a piece for a bespoke hotel room during London Design Week. From the outset, the aim was to craft something both sculptural and functional. Working closely with our natural stone and fabrication teams, Hunting & Narud developed a modular system that allowed the heavy stone and solid wood elements to be slotted together with precision—no screws, no glue, just material intelligence at work. This approach made the piece easier to ship, assemble and disassemble, aligning with the principles of circular design.
Sustainability Built In
With a minimal palette of just stone and wood, the Laft Table exemplifies sustainability through simplicity. Lundhs Antique®—quarried with care from the Sirevåg in Norway—is incredibly durable, requiring no surface treatments or additives. It ages beautifully, resists wear, and can be returned to nature without harm. Its pairing with renewable timber creates a product designed not just to last, but to endure with grace.
A Piece Designed for Timeless Spaces
Though initially imagined as a slender hotel desk, the Laft Table’s refined form makes it equally at home in residential interiors. It functions effortlessly as a writing table, console or sideboard—its understated geometry and rich material palette adding warmth and depth without distraction.
Looking Ahead
The Laft Table marks the beginning of a meaningful dialogue between natural stone and contemporary design. Encouraged by its reception, both Lundhs and Hunting & Narud are exploring how this language might evolve into a full collection, carrying forward the same values of thoughtful making, lasting beauty and material integrity.
The table will be exhibited during 3 Days of Design, in Copenhagen, June 18–20, 2025.
