The holiday home Fristad is beautifully located by the shoreline at Eftang in Tjodalyng, Larvik. With interior design by Marthine Huseby Bertelsen / PA Arkitekter, the cabin was rebuilt at the family’s request to maximize functionality and create larger gathering spaces, all within a minimal footprint.
It is clad in Lundhs Blue®, a blue larvikite sourced directly from Lundhs’ own quarries, covering both façade and roof. The result is a cohesive and timeless expression, where the stone’s distinctive blue-grey color variations and natural texture provide both strength and character. The stone-clad roof further emphasizes the building’s robust yet elegant architecture and creates a natural connection with the surrounding landscape.

Inside, the interior continues the warmth and character of natural materials. Ash on the floors, ceilings, and walls adds a sense of coziness and stands in elegant contrast to the tactility of the larvikite, while black details in lighting, door handles, and fittings reflect the modern lines of the façade. Lundhs Blue® is also used as a recurring material indoors – as tiles in the bathroom and entrance, as well as in the open-plan kitchen and living area, where both the kitchen island and fireplace are clad in the same stone. The kitchen island serves as a unifying element that ties the space together. The result is a seamless continuity that elegantly connects interior and architecture.

Lundhs Blue® is used as a continuous material both inside and out, showcasing the aesthetic and practical qualities of natural stone. The stone gives the holiday home a distinct character and demonstrates how natural stone can define an entire project – from façade to interior.
Fristad is an inspiring example of how extensive use of natural stone has created a holiday home in harmony with its surroundings.
