Lundhs featured in Stone Specialist’s “When Architects Meet Quarries”

Lundhs has been featured in Stone Specialist as part of a new interview series exploring what happens when architects experience natural stone at source.

The article follows a visit to Lundhs’ quarries in Larvik, Norway, by Edward Powe and Patrick O’Keeffe, directors of Studio Folk Architects. In conversation with Ben Ayling and Hege Elisabeth Lundh from Lundhs, they discuss how seeing Larvikite in the quarry changed their understanding of the material, from its natural variation and character to the potential of different grades, formats and surplus stone.

The discussion highlights natural stone’s growing role in low-carbon construction, craft-led design and more thoughtful material specification. Studio Folk reflect on how greater knowledge of a material’s origins can help architects design more creatively and sustainably, while also challenging assumptions about stone as a uniform or exclusively premium product.

The feature is the first part of a wider conversation between Studio Folk and Lundhs, with the next instalment set to turn the questions back to Lundhs.
